Week In Review
So, this has been gone for a few weeks. A big part of that, was I got sick and for a solid week was truly out of commission in terms of working out. I missed 2 days of work (which should of been 3...I was told to go home after an epic coughing attack), and a whole week of hot yoga (after I just freakin' resigned my membership!) The days at the end of a cold are almost worse than when you're in the thick of it. You don't feel like total crap BUT you're still not 100% and the constant snot running from your nose can take quite a toll on you.
My best friend and running BFF surprised me for my birthday, and wanted to experience running at an elevation, so I decided to give running a try. It wasn't pretty, but we made it happen - and she got to experience Colorado running. Since then, I've eased back into hot yoga, and running as best I can.
I'm happy to report that I'm feeling like myself again, and trying to get back in the groove. With the Dumbo Double Dare Challenge coming up in September, and Dopey coming my way in January, I have got to get these feet moving!
Training Schedule (4.27.15 - 5.3.15)
4.27.15// I went to after work hot yoga. I tried this the week prior to getting sick, and actually quite enjoyed it. It helps that I don't eat a ton during the day (one reason I prefer the morning classes...) and it feels good to have that release after a day of work.
4.28.15 // Rest day.
4.29.15 // After work hot yoga. In all honesty, I had signed up for the 5:30am class, and when my alarm went off at 5, I just couldn't do it. haha Therefore, I promised myself to commit to the evening class...and I followed through! I also helped put on an event for all the Staff for lunch, and had a really fun times decorating and giving out prizes. Woo for spreading cheer!
4.30.15 // Rest day. It was actually a crazy day of running around at work. My office administers finals, and this was the first day of finals. This semester I'm helping my boss start all of the classroom exams, and between just walking/running around classrooms and using the stairs as much as possible - my Fit Bit was happy! haha
5.1.15 // Rest day aka FRIIIIDAY! It was actually a quiet day in office since there were no day finals, but I was still on my feet quite a bit getting things prepped for this week.
5.2.15 // 1 hour 20 minute hot yoga class. It was quite comical when I arrived because my 5:30am teacher teaches the 8am on the weekends and was leaving as I was showing up for the 10am class - she wanted to know where I had been and why I wasn't at the 8am class. Whoopsie! She requested my presences at the 8am class on Sunday, but unfortunately I told her I couldn't since I was running at 10k. The other comical part came when the fire alarm went off during the last 10 minutes or so of class. While there was no fire (since they're in a strip mall type situation, I can only assume all of the stores get alerted as a precaution) my instructor joked the worst that could happen is 12 hot firemen would show up. When leaving class there actually WERE hot firemen there (out side on the sidewalk) so it all worked out. ;)
5.3.15 // Ran a 10k with the hubs for the Race for Open Space trail run!

I liked the cause of the race (saving land!) and we got to run through a really pretty area in which we were helping to preserve. It was also perfect running weather, and I hope this means the cold is behind us! I'll have more deets about this later this week, but for my husband's first 10k, he did amaaazing! =D So proud. I also technically PRed on my 10k time - this is only ever my 2nd 10k haha - so while it's not where I wanted to be given the recent set back of lack of training from being sick, I will still take it. haha
Since I was already sweaty and gross, I said 'why not' and went to noon hot yoga. It was only an hour class, and since I know I won't get there today due to a crazy day of finals, it all worked out. I have to say I was a bit of a hot mess at the beginning of class for a variety of reasons, I was glad I went.
How is the weather in your part of the woods? We had a really nice weekend here, but have a chance of rain/storms for the rest of the week. Summer is almost here!

Thursday Thoughts
As a follow up to last week's Thursday Thoughts, I received both of my fab blogger giveaways!
How neat! Finding a package in the mail for you is always fun. :) I actually used the pink Kloss headphones for my virtual 5k run this past weekend, and they worked great!
Today I wanted to give a shout out to all of those partaking in the runDisney Princess Half Marathon weekend - all of the expo fun starts today!
After my experience last month at the Disney World Marathon weekend, I hope to one day add the Princess weekend to my runDisney experiences. But for now I will enjoy checking out other bloggers experiences as they enjoy the 5k, 10k, Half and maybe even the Glass Slipper Challenge!
| runDisney 2015 Princess Half Marathon Weekend Medals! |
Hopefully it's not toooo cold for the Frozen 5k tomorrow...I know all to well from last months 5k just how cold it can actually get in Orlando! haha
Right now we're expecting about a foot of snow this weekend here in Denver...so I will be preparing for a nice snowed in weekend with the hubs and pup.
Sending all of the best wishes to all of the runners this weekend!
Have you ever raced Princess weekend in Disney?

Thursday Thoughts
One of the reasons I got into blogging initially was I started reading other running/runDisney blogs this past fall to get me as amped up and prepared for my first big race last month in Disney World last month.
I don't think I need to tell you that the Internet can be a black hole once you start searching things, but I was lucky to find some really awesome bloggers out there, that I still continue to follow today. While I know my little Podunk page pales in comparison to ones I read (...does anyone even read this!? haha) I plan to work on it more this year, especially as I will be working on running my 2nd half (who knew I'd do more than one!) and whatever else comes my way in 2015!
One cool thing about really awesome bloggers is they have giveaways. While I'm not that cool (yet!) in the past week I have one not one, but two different blog giveaways!
I found out over the weekend that I was the lucky recipent of some snazzy Kloss Fitseries Earbuds from the fabulous Karla over at Run Karla Run.
I will definitely be putting these to use as the temps get warmer and I'm able to hit the pavement again. Thank you so much to Karla for the shoutout on her site, and for the fab new running accessory!
Today I found out that I won an adorably cute pair of handmade hand warmers from the fantastic Katherine of Mouse Runner! Katherine was actually one of the first blogs that I came across in my blog searches and I really enjoy following her runDisney runs, as well and her tips to running, and more recently her crafting skills!
There is something so nice about offering up a handmade giveaway! Katherine also has a shop on Etsy - who doesn't LOVE etsy...another black hole of searching for me! - where you can purchase her fabulous crafts!
I feel doubly thankful to have won 2 giveaways so close together. It's the little things like this that can really make your day (....and work has been rough this week for a variety of reasons) so thank you to the awesome bloggers out there that brighten up our day!
Have you ever won a blogger giveaway? What's the coolest thing you've won?

Week In Review
Ah, got it in on Monday this week (go me!)
So, I think my workouts were a bit lacking overall last week (unfortunately).
As my previous posts hinted to...it's been cold. And quite frankly, I understand that is what happens this time of year. However, we didn't really ease into it here in Colorado, it basically went from super nice sunny weather to super cold single digits and snow over night - literally.
I blame said weather on my lack of wanting to go out in the early AM (aka yoga) or in the evening (aka the gym) - so I did what I could at home, and I hope to be more with it this week as it warms up a bit around here. Plus, I have a big long run this weekend!
Training Schedule (11.10.14 - 11.16.14)
11.10.14 // In all honesty, I had signed up for 5:30am hot yoga on this day. But when my alarm went off, my little cuddle bug Toby had just gotten super cuddly with me, and I couldn't break his heart and get out of bed. So, I turned off the alarm, canceled my class appointment, and rolled back over. I knew this was a mistake, because I knew what weather was coming my way, and figured it was not going to be a good week overall. Quite frankly, I shot myself in my own foot on this one. haha
11.11.14 // Given the deep freeze, and snow, that came upon the area, I actually got out of work 2 hours early to get a jump on the roads and traffic. However, it also did not make me want to leave the house and go to the gym to do my 30 minute Disney run. I opted to do online work out videos instead. I couldn't find my Jillian Micheal's 30 day Shred videos - my husband 'found' them for me, and I could no longer find them on the computer - so I instead tried my hand at the 10 minute work out series that I did find on said computer. I did 10 minutes of core, and then then 10 minute total body work out...which was a total success for me, since I didn't have a stretchy band to use as they were. I did work up a decent enough sweat, so I was happy for not doing anything, and felt productive given the nasty weather outside.
11.12.14 // Ok, so as I had already predicted on Monday - there was no way I was going to hot yoga today. Given the snow fall and chilly conditions, there was no way I was going to make that early morning trek. I almost opted out of going to work, but decided to just suck it up and make the drive in. What normally takes me about 25ish minutes took almost an hour and fifteen minutes - but I blame this more so on the fact that at a major intersection the lights were out and it was a true free-for-all in regards to who got to go which way when. A true hot mess of traffic, with no cops. Insanity.
11.13.14 // Yet another cold day in paradise, and I did not feel like walking over to the gym for my 30 minute Disney run. My husband was doing work on his computer, and I couldn't get the Apple TV working, so I just did a Pintrest workout that I had screen capped on my iPad. It REALLY worked my upper body - planks and pushups! - and I felt that on Friday. The 1 minute wall sit also wasn't my friend. But again, I felt happy to have done SOMETHING over nothing.
11.14.14 // Rest Day! Yay! haha My husband and I went to pick up our bibs for our Pumpkin Pie 5k after work, and I found the cutest running shorts on a (major!) sale at the store where they were hosting the pick up. We also went to Panera Bread for dinner - and I got way too excited over their fall menu. I LOVE their squash soup, so I was over the moon to have that back in my life again! I could eat that every day.
11.15.14 // Pumpkin Pie 5k day! I will do a full recap of the event this week, but lets just say that it was 14 degrees and snowing for the race. Not what I had signed up for, but it made it all that more of an experience. The course was slick, and I kept hearing people fall behind me, but I was just that much more diligent when running. It was fun to do the event with my husband - who had gone into training mode after I ran my first 10k last month. I'm thankful we did the 5k vs the 10k given the conditions and my distaste for cold weather. ;) I got my first ever running finisher's medal, and of course, my slice of pumpkin pie at the conclusion of events!
I completely forgot to turn on MapMyRun given the 'excitement' of the snow and weather so I don't have my split time, but we finished the race in 38:57 - hand in hand through the finish line. Nothing to really write home about, but given the conditions, I was happy with it! My mileage for my Disney training was 3 miles, so this race was right on par for what I needed for the weekend.
11.16.14 // Rest Day. The light snow that fell during the race turned into something far more considerable into Saturday night, so Sunday was a great day to lounge around and watch football with the hubs. I'm also working on something (see: knitting) very special for my niece for Christmas, and it was a good day to work on that as well.
Hopefully this week I can get back into the swing of things...I have 11 miles to run this weekend, and it doesn't look like I'm going to have much warmer conditions (false - it will hopefully be in the 40s. lol) so I need to get over this issue of not wanting to work out in the cold.
How do you motivate yourself with the winter weather?

Week In Review
I tend to have a pretty good routine with running and a "cross training" schedule. Cross training being hot yoga. I'll speak more about that tomorrow (it's a wonderful thing!).
The beginning of September began the "Official" Disney Half Marathon Training, as supplied by Disney. This is based upon two 30 minute work outs during the week (Tuesday/Thursday) which I typically run on a treadmill after work and then a long run on the weekends. My long runs are just really gearing up - as my posted yesterday alluded to, I had 8 miles for my long run this past week, yikes! haha
Training Schedule (10.20.14 - 10.26.14)
10.20.14 // 5:30am Hot Yoga at Sumits Yoga (80 minute class)
10.21.14 // 30 minute Disney training session. I ran 2.20 miles on the treadmill, which MapMyRun counts as a 13:34 pace.
10.22.14 // 5:30am Hot Yoga at Sumits Yoga (80 minute class)
10.23.14 // 30 minute Disney training session. I ran 2.20 miles on the treadmill, which MapMyRun counts as a 13:38 pace.
10.24.14 // Rest day. I was contemplating running after work, but was worried about running out of daylight given my 8 mile goal. The flip side is, if I complete these miles on Friday afternoon, it frees up my weekend for more fun times with the hubs and pup!
10.25.14 // 8 mile Disney training session. This was a learning running for me. The week prior, I ran 6 miles and felt GREAT about it (and completed it on a Friday after work!). Going into this run, however, I suppose I didn't leave enough time between my late lunch and hitting the road (which I was nervous about again since I ran in the afternoon and chasing the daylight!) so I knew I couldn't hold off starting any longer, heading out around 4:30pm. I started off strong, but then it was all down hill from there - I felt like I had a brick in my stomach. It was painful, and it showed on my splits. I actually didn't even look at my splits until Sunday because I knew they were going to depress me, given how successful I had previously been. While the pain did eventually subside, the damage was done. There were MULTIPLE times I almost just threw in the towel, but decided regardless of the times, to finish it. Though I feel you can just see my deterioration throughout.
I know from here, it can only get better (and as my husband pointed out, I was below the 16 minute mile requirement for Disney...gee, thanks!) but it was still a bit of a downer given how well I have been doing based up my 10K a few weeks ago, and my 6 mile run last week. We can't all have perfect runs all the time, and it was a learning lesson given the late lunch I had (Wendy's!) and not giving myself enough time to digest and run properly.
I guess that's just part of being a novice runner, some things you just have to learn the hard way!
10.26.14 // 1.06 mile walk around the 'hood with Toby and my Husband. A Toby mile walk typically take about half an hour due to his avid sniffing. This one clocked in at 29:31 minutes.
Any tips for me as I get into longer runs?
